Perfect Ways to Properly Use Portable Power Generator

Portable generators are very useful devices because they always get us out of trouble, for example, when a power outage occurs because the local power grid has failed, or simply when we need it because where we are there is no electricity, tell us in the Forest, in a country house, or even in our caravan.

1.  Read the manufacturer's instruction manual.

Although it seems obvious, most people do not, so we insist that this is a very important point. Each brand or manufacturer operates with different parameters, so it is best to read the manual of your portable electric generator. If you have never used a generator, you should do so, as well as try to save the manual near your device.

2. Place the generator in an appropriate place

Also install it 1 m away from any object because the generator produces heat and smoke that is why you should also place it within 6 meters of a window or door and check that it is a dry place.

3. Check fuel level (whether diesel or gasoline)

Usually these appliances have some fuel gauge, check if the fuel is full. Do not try to start it without fuel, otherwise you could damage your generator. As a precaution, once you turn on your generator and the devices connected to it, do not let the fuel run out, this could cause an unnecessary jitter that causes the failure of the electronic devices you have connected.

4. Check the generator oil level

As you know, the generator also needs oil, either 2-stroke or 4-stroke. Check that you have enough oil so that when starting your generator the internal parts of the engine lubricate properly. Remember also that no lubricant is used, in the manual the manufacturer will tell you what viscosity and what type of oil you require.

5. Examine the air filter

Some brands use air filters of different sizes, if so check that it is not covered, and that it does not have to be changed. This will result in longer life and better performance, by reducing fuel consumption.

6. Position the Starter and contact button in correct position

It is always advisable to activate the STARTER or Choke of the Generator, because it is a carburetion motor and needs to be heated optimally. Then press or move the ignition button to ON.

7. Open the fuel cock

Always leave this key off when the generator is not running for safety reasons.

8. Down the generator

Last but not least, these are the steps to turn off your generator either because you no longer need it, you are going to load fuel or complete the oil level. Press the START button again or turn the key to OFF to turn off your generator, then turn the fuel valve to OFF.
